Scope: Conceptual Design
Individual Work

This project calls for the design of a compact vertical building in the dense urban context of the Sydney CBD. The building hosts a conversation between two architectural programs, jewellery maker and pool hall. The initial experimentation and rational analysis were carried out in pairs, while the final proposal was individual. A 'hybrid building', which is characterised by a high programmatic complexity, is the architectural ambitions of the project. The overarching idea is a play on the meaning of 'setting': placement, or time and place. The jewellery maker's building is located at the front to become a building within the building. Each floor plate constitutes of one pool table to allow privacy and visual connection, and folds up to create seating and tables. The timber columns are angled to support the floor while having the shape of pool cues.
